Esprit de Corps accepts a small number of unsolicited submissions for publication, and invites writers to submit query letters detailing prospective stories related to the Canadian military, Canadian military history or the defence industry.
Your query letter should include your intended approach, the intended section and a brief list of any previous published work, including a writing sample.
Send all query letters to Jim@espritdecorps.ca with the subject "Query + your full name." Writing samples and other attachments must be sent as Microsoft Word documents.
Esprit de Corps receives many query letters, especially for Canadian military history pieces. If your submission is chosen for publication, please keep in mind that it normally takes — at a minimum — three months until your work appears in the magazine.
Most sections in Esprit de Corps range from 800 to 1,200 words, excluding features, which may run up to 2,000 words. From time to time, we may accept works that are larger; however, these must be divided into parts not exceeding 2,000 words, and not longer than three parts.
Please note: Due to volume of submissions, it may take up to 2 weeks before you receive a response. If you have not received a reply to your query after that time, we invite you to follow up.
